Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster Modded for metal

I recently picked up a Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster, and this thing is absolutely sick! I immediately fell in love with how smooth and neck was with the added benefit of level Jumbo frets. I had to snag it despite some electronics I’ll talk about swapping later in this article.

It’s no secret that Squier has been absolutely killing it on their Classic Vibe Series. they’ve been nailing the classic vintage ascetic with sounds that are more than close enough to their Fender counterparts.

In this case, they maintained much of the vintage charm with some modern alternative rock appointments like jumbo frets, a smooth neck finish (mentioned above), and hot p90 pickups.

However, despite how much I loved the look, feel, and sound of this guitar; I couldn’t get past the bridge pickup. It didn’t sound bad at all, it just wasn't for me.

This kicked off the mods I’ll list off below along with a wiring diagram. Be sure to watch my Youtube video to learn more!

NOTE: If you’re using a Fender/Squier Jazzmaster neck pickup, you will need to flip the single coil phase. This is done by switching the wires on the neck pickup itself. If this is not done, the middle position will not act as intended, giving you a quacky sounding tone.
