Seymour Duncan Nazgûl vs. Nazgûl Rails

Seymour Duncan Nazgul is an iconic pickup in the modern metal and metalcore space, and also happens to be my favorite guitar pickup! I decided to shoot out both pickups and had interesting results…

When Duncan announced the Nazgûl Rails, it was perfect timing for me to put it in myJ Mascis Jazzmaster. I chose the Rails specifically because I wasn’t entirely sure at the time if a standard or Trembucker string spaced pickup would be correct for my build.

As much as I love that guitar and that rails pickup, I couldn't help but notice decent amount of differences in the frequency response over time. The Nazgul seems to have a bit more low end and more prominent mids, whereas the Nazgul Rails has tighter lows and a more prominent upper mid focus.
